Fish Hotel is an augmented reality application designed for mobile devices and interactive multimedia projection. This innovative app utilizes location data to visualize real-time coral reef data in a 3D animated underwater world populated by fish and coral. Users are immediately immersed in a 360-degree underwater environment upon launching the app on their mobile devices.

The augmented reality world features a diverse range of fish at various trophic levels along with aquatic organisms like shrimp, algae, and anemones. Together, these elements create a vibrant and interconnected ecosystem. The entire AR environment is presented as 3D animations accompanied by a surround sound mix of hydrophone recordings from actual reef habitats.

This immersive AR experience dynamically responds to the health status of the nearest coral reef based on key indicators from a customized API that analyzes the device's location to identify the closest reef. These indicators encompass factors such as overfishing data, water temperature, water quality, cross-reef wave intensity, and water levels. As different variables impact the reef's well-being, any ecological disturbances are mirrored in the application’s visual representation. For instance, high water temperatures combined with overfishing could result in algae growth on corals, dying anemones, and a decrease in fish populations.

Through the creation of this captivating virtual ecosystem, the project aims to educate users about the current state of local coral reefs while also highlighting the interconnectedness between corals, their inhabitants, and the broader ecosystems that depend on reefs for survival. In a world where marine environments face threats from climate change, pollution, and overfishing, Fish Hotel serves as an informative tool bridging the gap between complex climate data and our everyday experiences. The goal of this project is to offer users a portal into the intricate aquatic systems that sustain us and our planetary cohabitants.
